US Navy (USN) Hull Maintenance Technician Second Class (HT2) Christopher Gray and Electrician Mate Third Class (EM3) Bryan Davis, part of Joint Task Force (JTF) Gulf Coast, make final preparations to energize an electrical submersible pump powered by a HEMTT (Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Truck) A3 Hybrid electric truck. The truck provides 250 kilowatts of power to the pumps for dewatering efforts at the Medical Center at Louisiana Charity Hospital in downtown New Orleans. The Navy's active participation in the Hurricane Katrina humanitarian assistance operations is led by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), in conjunction with the Department of Defense (DoD).
